Writing Fiction – An Intermediate Creative Writing Workshop
May 13, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Would you like to write compelling fiction like this?
“There is an ecstasy that marks the summit of life, and beyond which life cannot rise. And such is the paradox of living, this ecstasy comes when one is most alive, and it comes as a complete forgetfulness that one is alive. This ecstasy, this forgetfulness of living, comes to the artist, caught up and out of himself in a sheet of flame; it comes to the soldier, war-mad in a stricken field and refusing quarter; and it came to the dog leading his pack, sounding his old wolf-cry, straining after the food that was alive and that fled before him swiftly through the dim winter moonlight.” (Jack London)
You can with the right tools!
This creative (fiction) writing short workshop is for those who have some introduction to creative writing, even for those who have written short stories or tried their hand at a novel. This is not a beginning writing class.
In this close-knit, interactive and enjoyable 4-week writing clinic, we will delve into the proven techniques of creative writing, re-learning how to create unforgettable characters, writing compelling dialogue and strong scenes and settings, studying the techniques for showing rather than telling, and creating strong points of view. Overall, we will learn how to write compelling stories. This is an opportunity for you to hone and sharpen your fiction writing skills.
Each week, students will write short exercises, starting with an assignment before the class meets, and will read your work in a nurturing, supportive, and fun environment that will take your writing to the next level.
Class will meet Mondays, April 29, May 6, 13, 20
Fee: $100 in advance
